Danish/Gambian duo Ba Balance collaborates with acclaimed bassist and producer Laust "Krudtmejer" Nielsen

Bio

Ba Balance / Krudtmejer is a collaboration between the Danish–Gambian duo Ba Balance (guitarist Preben Carlsen and percussionist Sal Dibba) and the award-winning bassist and producer Laust "Krudtmejer" Nielsen.

In 2025, Ba Balance began working with Nielsen on a new creative trajectory. The trio is currently working on a forthcoming album set for release in autumn 2026. During 2025, four singles were released, several of which have already been in rotation on DR P8.

The music draws on the African roots of blues as a natural starting point while speaking to contemporary trends in instrumental music. The songs are rhythmic and grounded, with room for both depth and groove—moving in the intersection between African traditions and blues/roots.

For concerts, the trio presents both new material and selected songs from their back catalog with Ba Balance and Krudtmejer's "The Nielsen Valley" project.

In some periods, the trio can be expanded to a quartet with the award-winning blues musician Big Creek Slim as guest on vocals and guitar, adding a distinct blues dimension to the concert.

Salieu Dibba

In Ba Balance, his percussion anchors and drives the music in close dialogue with the guitar.
